Rastro Valencia

Saturday, May 7, saw the inauguration of the Rastro at Novetle, near Xativa.  Not one, but two Alcaldes from nearby villages, cut the ribbon, to open officially what has already become a very busy indoor trading centre.  Despite a very grey day. a fair number of people turned up to be greeted with a glass of wine and nibbles.  The two Alcaldes spent some time visiting all the stalls and chatting with the market traders, expressing some surprise at the wide variety of goods on offer.

Open four days a week, the Rastro offers a superb array of stalls including an English grocery shop, Oggi’s cafe which boasts an astonishing range of home made cakes and pastries as well as a delicious English breakfast cooked the way you like it.  There is also an absolute mountain of books. A recent addition has been ‘ Totally Organics Farm Shop ‘ where. apart from the obvious fruit and veg, you will find Mo’s famous chutneys. jams and pickles.  Two hairdressers, furniture, wine, herbal remedies, cosmetics, greetings cards, and jewellery are among the forty plus stalls which make up the Rastro.  Often some very attractive antiques can be discovered amongst the everyday bric-a-brac.  You may also buy or sell gold and silver at very keen prices.

Recognising the need for a carboot/rastro in or near Xativa, Tony, Alan and Rod first considered their idea early last year and, after looking at several possible sites, finally settled on a warehouse in the industrial estate in Novetle.  With a floor area of  700 square metres, the Rastro can accommodate nearly fifty stalls, so you can be sure of finding something to interest you, or maybe just drop in for coffee and a warm welcome,

To find the Rastro, from Xativa take the Ontinyent road to the Novetle bypass and at the next roundabout, take the first exit into Poligono   Industrial.  You’ll find it next to the Restaurant La Vila.  From the inland motorway, take the Gandia exit onto the CV40, to exit number 3. follow signs to Xativa.  At the Galp petrol station roundabout, take the third exit into the poligono.  From Gandia, take the CV60 to end, join CV40 at roundabout, direction Xativa, through tunnel, to exit number 3 and continue as above.  If you get lost, phone 617 885 375 for help.
