A fun afternoon with P.E.P.A!

The first thing that struck us all was the atmosphere!  Happy smiling faces everywhere, much to see and much to do!   It was just FUN!   It goes without saying that the location of the New Horizons Microlight Club at Benicolet aerodrome is a perfect setting for holding such an event.   We are really grateful to Derek Merritt-Holman for his generosity in reducing his flights to 20€ for the day and awarding P.E.P.A. a magnificent 50%, this year amounting to a really splendid total of 160€.  Without exception, everyone who took a flight enthused about the wonderful experience.

And it wasn’t only Derek from the Merritt-Holman family who contributed to our success.  Abbey played an enormous part by creating games for the kids and tirelessly giving rides on her Quad Bike, and Max, their young son, made his contribution by putting artistic transfers on all his friends!

So many people to thank, it is difficult to know where to begin, but a special mention must be given to the following people with a big thank you for all their hard work on a very hot afternoon which raised 1285€ to help with our feral cat sterilising programme and homing abandoned dogs.  Thank you to:  the P.E.P.A. team; Josefina’s Bar for providing all those ‘scrumpy’ hamburgers; Mike Airey, in charge of our Auction; Sean Hall-Smith for providing delicious Rum Punches; Joy Potter for her hard work in organising all the rastro stalls; David Snell for providing great disco entertainment; David Orme for bringing along his beautiful 1965 Ford Mustang.

Thanks to Tony Cowper and to Joyce Wright for organising the Petanca tournament.  This was the second annual P.E.P.A. Petanca Challenge Cup played out as part of the Fun Day event.  The Challenge Cup, donated by Oranges & Lemons was won this year by the ‘Originals’ Team drawn from the Gandia Social Club petanca players, by 5 games to 3 after a hard fought finish to the last game of the match.  The Drovas Team are already looking forward to a return match!
