Janet and Brink

Picture16.gif A couple of weeks ago we were invited to see Janet and Billy Brink playing in Al Jardin in Pedreguer. The invitation couldn’t have come at a better time as we had friends over who were itching for some great live music. Would they be entertained? Or would they be on the brink of disappointment?

The venue itself is not incredibly easy to find mainly because of what is next door to it – the flashing lights of the night club tend to misguide you past it making you think it couldn’t possibly be there – when in fact it is right next door. However once you find it, inside is a warm welcome to be had. When we got there Billy and Janet were setting up their equipment and warming up their guitar strings and vocal chords.

So what are the Brink like. I first saw the Brink 3 or so years ago in a bar in Moraira. The next time I saw them was the Moraira Music Festival and I made comments about Janet singing a particular song.  However whatever comments I may have made were not aimed at their overall performance. There is no doubt about it Billy is a great guitarist and accomplished musician in his own right. He plays Saxophone and flute (I believe it is a flute) with equal ability.

Janet for the most part plays Rhythm guitar and keyboards and on occasions plays saxophone. Together they make a good team. They have a full repertoire – having seen them 4 times now there are very few songs they have repeated and can easily play requests and are more than willing to do so.  There range covers from Alan Parsons Project and Pink Floyd, to Dire Straits, and many more great rockin’ tunes in between. They already have a busy schedule playing many venues in and around the Javea area but would make a worthy addition to any bar or restaurants list of artists – especially in the Oliva area where there is a lack of good places to go and see live music.

On the night in question they played a wide range of songs from rhythm and blues to good old rock and Roll (and I seem to remember the odd country and western song too). There were many people up dancing and enjoying themselves – even Mags from Inmoavante estate agents in Oliva strayed onto the dance floor at one point.  We also had the good fortune to bump into Angie and Kev from Fortuna who were down to see the Brink – who also play regularly at Al Jardin.

The Brink on the night played very well, the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the evening and a good time was had by all. The only downside to the evening was the amount of smoke in the bar/front restaurant. It was so bad it took me 4 days to stop coughing. Perhaps the owners should consider their smoking area elsewhere – especially in light of the fact that all the food has to pass by this area. Other than this everyone enjoyed themselves and the two of our party that ate there highly recommended the food (it did look very appetising)

So for a good night out get along to Al Jardin. If you want an excellent all round entertainment package then Janet and Billy will give excellent value for money.
Go Live
