Alcalali Angling Club

Match Report 18th April 2008

Members of the Alcalali Angling Club were back on the cemetery stretch of the Rio Jucar on Friday 25th April, on what was their first really hot match day of the year. The sun certainly shone on Roger Ackers as he continued his good run of results, fishing most of the match up in the water, he caught steadily and then pulled ahead with a blistering last hour, finally taking 55kg for first place. With the fish spawning amongst the bamboos and their minds clearly on more important matters, weights on the day were down on the norm for this stretch but Siegbert Grabow was only 6kg off the mark, catching sporadically throughout the match fishing his preferred method on the bottom with paste, he managed to put 49.5kg in his nets for second place,.  In third place, only 6kg behind Siggy, Tony Fowler stayed up in the water throughout the match for 43.3kg. In fourth place, fishing his first match of this visit and in need of some match practice, Allan ‘Bobby Socks’ Wilson warmed up by taking 27.5kg off the end peg.

On the whole, a good days fishing, in near perfect conditions - a warm and sunny day with an upstream breeze. Next week could see a change of fortunes with many struggling again as they tackle sections B2 and C1 upstream of the Iron Bridge near Sueca. Everyone is in with a chance on this stretch of water, who will the sun shine on this week?
