OLIVA NOVA GOLF COURSE TUESDAY 12TH OF MARCH. I'm not saying my golf game went bad, but if I grew tomatoes, they'd come up sliced. - Lee Trevino
Weather at Oliva Nova :- It was a pleasant morning when we started the round , but it gradually becoming cloudy and colder with a strong northerly wind. Today, we had 43 members turning out for today's event. We welcomed two guest players, namely Andy and Julie Hilton. The course was in excellent condition considering. The fairways were reasonably dry and the greens had not lost their pace, but tended to be a little bumpy at times.

FUN competitions provide the ideal opportunity to mix up teams to include the full range of handicaps. But how to create a competition which is open and fair to everyone can be a problem for the organiser – unless that is the society uses the computer software package, Handicap Master.Creating a start sheet which includes all the players and then asking the computer to 'balance handicaps' so that each group's total handicap is similar, is achieved by – just ticking a box.Levante used this method at Oliva Nova for a competition in which eight teams of four recorded the best three stableford points scores on each hole.

LOCAL knowledge nearly always plays a big part in competition against 'visiting' players. So, with six La Sella 'socios' among the 30 Levante members and five guests competing at La Sella yesterday, it wasn't surprising that the winning scores came from those playing 'at home'.
But the difficult La Sella course, with its fast, tricky greens once again proved the master, and only one player – Roy Molyneux, playing off 32 and one of five guests – managed to break par, scoring 39 points.

Roger's a knockout winner in 'David and Goliath' semi-final
GOLF's handicap system ensures that nothing can be taken for granted when a single figure player meets a high handicapper. And at Alicante Golf, in the semi-final of Levante's major knockout event, the Syd Smith Trophy, there was a classic example of why, in golf, there is no such thing as an underdog.
