Mr and Mrs E take the prizes as 'locals' clean up at La Sella

LOCAL knowledge nearly always plays a big part in competition against 'visiting' players. So, with six La Sella 'socios' among the 30 Levante members and five guests competing at La Sella yesterday, it wasn't surprising that the winning scores came from those playing 'at home'.

But the difficult La Sella course, with its fast, tricky greens once again proved the master, and only one player – Roy Molyneux, playing off 32 and one of five guests – managed to break par, scoring 39 points.

In Division 1 Anne Edwards (11) and Peter Jenkins (13) both had 35 points, Anne taking first prize on the lower handicap rule. Former La Sella member Mike Cuerden finished third with 34 points.

It was a 'Divisional double whammy' for the Edwards family as Anne's husband Eric won Division 2. Again the top two positions were decided on handicaps when both Eric and Dick Temperton returned 34 points. Dick had to settle for the runners-up spot. with Alan Overton third with 32 points.

A 'roll over' pot of 60 euros was up for grabs for those recording a 2 on their card. In the previous meeting, also at La Sella, no player had a 2 but this time three shared the money – Anne Edwards, Robert Bedloe and Roger Mallaburn – all picking up birdies on the difficult 13th hole.

It was strange that none of them won the nearest the pin prizes, which went to Harris McCrea on hole 5 and Clive Wright on hole 15.
